John Leeder

John Leeder is from Inglewood Ontario and moved to Calgary in 1975. John’s exposure to folk music was facilitated through Edith Fowke and Alan Mills’ radio programs, and homemade music performed by his father. John’s affinity to folk music strengthened during his time in the 60’s folk scene of Toronto. Canadian and British traditional and American old-time music are John’s greatest influences. Within his community, John is known for his octave mandolin playing and modified clawhammer style on the five-string banjo. John is Honorary President of the Canadian Society for Traditional Music.
