The Bitterweed Draw is a six-piece collective comprised of equal parts urban and rural Alberta, much like Calgary itself. From diverse musical backgrounds including punk rock, heavy metal and High School Band class, the band has grown from its influences into a formidable combination of country, folk, and bluegrass, with a foot on the gas pedal when needed. The Bitterweed Draw has released a debut LP, toured across Canada and maintaink touring across Western Canada. The band is equally at home playing in front of craft beer swilling, bearded, and plaid-clad regulars of independent music venues, as they are on stage at The Brooks Hotel.

Our Thursday jam is a bunch of like-minded people who enjoy sharing music. All kinds of music are acceptable – although we tend to cluster at the folky end of the spectrum – and all skill levels.
The character of any given evening is determined by who shows up. Some people do instrumentals, some do a cappella songs, and most of us do everything in between; we all try to fit in somehow, or listen if that doesn’t work.
Regulars tend to be people who are flexible and like all kinds of music. The jam has been going for over 30 years, at many different locations; we meet at people’s homes, depending on who wants to host that week.

Tim Williams has been a performer, recording artist and producer in the roots and blues music fields for almost five decades, since his middle teens. A published poet at 18, major label recording artist at 20, friend and co-worker with many of the legends of Americana (Lightnin’ Hopkins, Robert Lockwood Jr., John Fahey and more). Tim’s dual win (Best Solo/Duo and Best Guitarist, Solo/Duo) at the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis merely prove what many people have known all along: he is one of the finest living interpreters of pre-war blues, and a songwriter/instrumentalist of formidable skill.
